I can tell this series is going to be hilarious (and painful).

I meant it to be a perspective view.

Sometimes I just go with the pronunciation I like best whether it's proper or not. I still can't pronounce the city in Louisiana "LAFFEE-et" without making a silly face. Right or wrong I tend to go with the more acoustically pleasant to my ears :)

Great puzzle Brian. Love the explanation Kristen.

I will happily pronounce a town or street the way the locals pronounce it, though many of the streets in New Orleans make me sad. Like BurGUNdy St.

I mostly try to not care about pronunciations, but here in Michigan, in Detroit there is a street called Gratiot, which is pronounced "GRASH-it." That one really grates on me, every time I hear it. There's also a city near here called Milan that is pronounced "MY-lun." I don't cringe anymore when I hear it, but that took me a *long* time to get used to.

Another great one Brain, thanks!

Arizona has a Miami but they insist on pronouncing it My-yam-ah.

Can't help but think of everybody's favorite word to mispronounce: Worcestershire sauce
#14: David Bouldin (dbouldin) on Sep 10, 2025
"Please pass the Lea & Perrins"

Worcestershire is one of those words that you can pronounce in ridiculous ways, and people will still know what you're talking about.
Worst Chester sauce? Sure, it's right here!
Westminster sauce? Here you go!

Benedict Cumberbatch is much the same. I'm fond of Butternut Crinklefries, but there's Bandicoot Cucumbersnack, Bumblebee Candlestick, and so many more!

To #11, there's a town in Ohio called Gratiot, but it's pronounced GRAY-$#!+.
#21: Valerie Mates (valerie) on Sep 12, 2025
Oh my goodness!

In my neck of the woods in SC, the city has a road named Huger Street. The locals pronounce it as YOU-gee. That fuses my brain together.
