There was a hopscotch board painted on the play yard at my elementary school, so I learned the rules there, from watching other kids play. They seemed to already know the rules and were not at all welcoming, so I felt like an outsider. Also the squares of the painted board were much too large for me to be able to jump from square to square, and farther away than I could throw the marker, so it was really hard for a tiny child to use. Or, in other words, being a kid is hard, and I am much happier to be an adult!
