Years ago I was tired of telling people the banal reason I was limping, so I started telling people I had been bitten by an alligator while shark hunting in Lake Erie. The first person I told this was this guy from Romania who knew all the geographic and industrial data of all the places in the world….i could see his brain breaking while he pondered his surety there were no sharks or alligators in freshwater, but why would an American have reason to lie about such critical data? Sadly, I never saw him again….i seem to have a penchant for flirting so disastrously….

Heh! I have a scar visible on both sides of my head from surgery as an infant (https://www.seattlechildrens.org/conditions/craniosynostosis/), and I also got tired of telling the same boring story, so I started testing out more adventurous, just-plausible-enough explanations. :D

Brash, I love your idea of the alligator bite while shark hunting in Lake Erie. omg What a fantastic tale. hahaha

Yonah, I encourage your creativity. I had minor surgery a few years ago. I had a Band-Aid on my face in a weird place. My co-workers asked what happened. I told them it was a shaving accident. Reactions were priceless.

lol, I was wearing some carpenter's gloves which end at the second knuckle on the first and second fingers (for dexterity). I caught someone looking at them and deadpanned "chainsaw accident"
