Jota - When I was a kid, they were all black, here in the US, too. I remember when my mom painted one gold, and then, soon after that, other colors started appearing in stores.

Bill, I used that telegraph trick once when my wife and I were trapped in a stuck elevator between floors (this was the pre-cell phone era). The elevator phone for emergencies could only call the apartment office, which was closed at the time. After some experimenting, I pushed the call button and before the phone could call the office, I was able to quickly tap the hang-up button 4X then 1X then 1X again and was able to reach 411 and the operator sent help.

Interesting! 411 would be the online telephone directory information number, so it's not who I'd normally think to call for a rescue, but it's also probably the shortest possible number -- or maybe the *only* possible number -- that you could have called in the brief amount of time before the phone auto-dialed the office. Greg, that is amazingly thoughtful and cool!!!
