There is a solution to this Mastermind puzzle (Red = right color wrong position, Black = right color, right position) What could it be???

I've heard these called other things besides Masterminds...but whatever they're called, I'm not very good at them! Some days my logic muse is just not with me. Thanks for the very clever puzzle!

What a fun puzzle within a puzzle!
The only thing I would recommend would be to put the solution (the order being blue, red, black, green) as a SPOILER first comment). I still solved the Mastermind portion, though.

I like this game, though it often boggles the mind. Glad I couldn't see the answer after solving the pbn so I had time to solve the mastermind puzzle. Nice job. :)

i'm not familiar with these. Could someone please explain the puzzle?

Someone places any 4 marbles (of any color; he/she may choose all 4 of the same color, or 1 each of 4 different colors, or any combination in between) and places them secretly hidden at the bottom of the board. The other player then has to determine the order and color of the hidden marbles.

The "guesser" places any 4 marbles on the playing board, and the "hider" has to tell the guesser how many of the marbles that the guesser placed were either the right color (but not in the exact location) or were both correct AND in the exact location, without telling him/her which one of those it/they is/are. Then the guesser places 4 more marbles in the next row of the playing field (they may be the same color or different ones), and the hider once again tells the guesser how many (if any) are correct.

The guesser only has a limited number of rows in which to "logically" determine the correct order of the hider's marbles.

Hope that was clear as mud. :-)

that was clear to me, but then, I know how to play. Our game actually has 5 color spots.

Thanks Adam! I don't think I could go play a round, but I understand the premise now.

LOL, Dennis. You already gave the answer.
Well, it looks like you changed it, but my comment #2 still says it.

I haven't seen a Mastermind puzzle in what seems like forever! And I managed to guess the answer. Blue, Red, Black, Green. This was fun! Puzzles within puzzles always are. :)
