I see your point Norma.

It's pretty hard to come up with something that hasn't been done over and over. That's why when I first joined up I was making puzzles one after another, and after I'd done a lot of puzzles I just couldn't come with anything original.

That's why I came up with Igor and Mr. Cat. I could put them in familiar places but their presence would make it different.

I have ideas but can't convey them into puzzles yet.

Fortunately, some of us continue enjoy all the puzzles, regardless of how often their themes are repeated.

This is neat ... a meta-post without pointing the finger.

One problem is, we want to start with stuff we know, but we also don't want to be too obscure to start.

I really enjoy seeing what unusual stuff people like. Even if the image doesn't work out, if they have a link, it's good enough.

I made this puzzle (which is intented as a kind of tongue and cheek challenge to myself) after once again reading Jan's Advice on Creatimg Puzzles where he talks about originality. It's a great article and I wonder how many people have actually read it.

I was a great fan of the Honors Challenges. It was, and still is, quite fascinating to see different interpretationa of the same subject.

I miss a guy named Adam who kept some kind of data base of the puzzles and when a puzzle was posted he would post how many other puzzkes there were with the sane theme. At first, as did others, I thought he was being insulting but he wasn't. Just informative.

Above all, I am not bored with this site. At 93 I still love creating and solving. With over 30,000 puzzles it is hard to pick a subject, but as Andrew says, start with stuff you know. But don't give up.

There's one thing missing from your list: patterns. Lots and lots of puzzles that consist solely of some sort of repeating pattern.
#9: Norma Dee (norm0908) on Sep 17, 2024
I wish I had thought of that, Alan. You are right, the quilt, afgan, etc. can be very boring when they just repeat the same pattern.

This is a fun way to combine a lot of the overdone puzzle themes.

I think it's one of the reasons I don't create a *lot* of puzzles. It's hard to think of new ideas, so I usually end up building off of an idea that someone else has. I either think of a different interpretation of a title, or I have a different take on the subject. ^_^

And I always look forward to your puzzles.
