A few days ago, I drove north from Birmingham, AL, to hear them. First I stopped at a rest area, but I didn't hear any. I walked back toward the woodsier part, but still no cicada sounds.#8: Belita (belita) on May 17, 2024 [SPOILER]
I kept going north, and I was beginning to regret not just driving south, because I knew there was a band around Selma. Suddenly, I *heard* them! From inside the car! Over the noise of the interstate, with my windows rolled up!
I stopped in Lacon, AL, 76 miles north of my home exit, and just listened for a while. <3

Great image. We have had grasshopper plagues but no cicadas.
My cat (the same one who liked my piano) thought they were great entertainment. He would gather himself then leap high into the air and catch one between his front paws.
