Ottawa has a bylaw that limits the number of cats and dogs in a household to five, with a maximum of three dogs. My son and his family had two rescue cats. When my daughter-in-law began to work from home five years ago, they adopted a rescue dog. Then another. And another. Last year they agreed to foster, NOT adopt, another rescue cat for a few weeks. As if. She made her nest on the 11 year old's bed and cuddled up, love at first nap. They've been breaking the law for more than a year now.

We rescued a Millie as well, here in Denver, about six years ago. She's no longer named Millie, though, for a couple of reasons. We were down to one dog, Lilly, because our other rescue, an Aussie named Redwind, died unexpectedly with cancer at age 7. We met Millie at a rescue center, and she took to us (Me, really) right away. However, because of the similarity to the sound of Lilly, we wanted to change her name. We had just finished binge-watching "Orphan Black" and our new girl, a border collie/cattle dog mix, had an amazing resemblance to the lab rat character, Kosima. So that's her name! We call her Sima for short.

aww, I bet Sima is super cute. My Millie was Brownie when I first met her. Millie is short for Millionaire.

I have always named my pets after musical artists/bands :) Had to balance the ones I liked with the ones that made good pet names. Prince, Nina, Charlatan (called him Charlie), Costello (Coz for short), etc. My last dog passed a couple of years ago and I haven't brought myself to get another yet. Her name was Echo, a Retriever-Tibetan Terrier mix. No offense to every other dog, but she was the best.

My last dog was Harley, it took a loooooong time to be ready for Millie after him cause.. he was the best.. but to each their own.
