I *loved* that book, Belita. Extra points for your shout-out to it.#2: Bill Eisenmann (Bullet) on Aug 5, 2023
From my past: I became an accountant so long ago that women were still a tiny minority in the profession in Canada and were often unwelcome, scorned, or outright insulted. My sister became a doctor and had similar experiences in the US. Women in historically male professions could not advance without being self-assured and assertive (which was of course labeled aggressive). Those times are all but forgotten now, except by those of us who lived them.
Our son wanted to be a scientist from the time he was little. When he was ten, he suddenly had a terrible thought and asked us in muddled words: "What will I do if, by the time I grow up, there's a scientist and he has already discovered the last thing there is to discover? <pause> Or she?" And I said to my husband with a grin, "My work here is done."
Awesome story lollipop!#3: Jota (jota) on Aug 5, 2023
Great puzzle, Belita!
Totally agree with Bill!#4: Kathy Roth (clydie) on Aug 5, 2023
Great puzzle!#5: Valerie Mates (valerie) on Aug 6, 2023
I went to request this from my library and found I'm already on the list! I'm number 157 in a queue of 503 people waiting for turns with 56 copies. (You wanted to hear all that, right?)#6: Belita (belita) on Aug 6, 2023
Just buy the book, Valerie.#7: gregg licht (Lgreg) on Aug 6, 2023
Love the bright image and the puzzle was fun, plus it came with a bonus story. Thanks!#8: Valerie Mates (valerie) on Aug 6, 2023
Belita - Actually I'm happy to wait for the library queue. My pile of unread books is as enormous as everybody else's, and waiting in the library queue helps to control it, plus also then I can give the book back when I'm done with it instead of having it cluttering up the house. In my opinion, these things are worth it!#9: Valerie Mates (valerie) on Oct 30, 2023 [SPOILER]
I finished reading it earlier today. Fun book -- lots of very memorable characters, and some very thoughtful points about the world.#10: Belita (belita) on Oct 31, 2023 [SPOILER]
Belita, is that Elizabeth Zott's coffee-making apparatus? I loved the book's descriptions of it.
It could be the coffee maker or just some other chemical experiment. I wasn't being specific.#11: JoDeen Mozena (ozymoe) on Oct 31, 2023
