Who comes up with these days? And who follows them?

There was a couple who came up with a website to celebrate offbeat "day of"s. Mostly they made them up themselves, but they also allowed submissions. I cannot find them through the dreck that Google sends to the top now.

Now there are many sites that do this in all seriousness, not realizing nor caring that it was all a good joke to begin with.

There is even one that claims to be the first, but obviously isn't, that started in 2013.

As to who follows them? People who like the specific thing for that day, I guess. Mostly they have become an advertising vector for Business.

Who follows them? It depends on the day....I was especially drawn to Sneak Some Zucchini onto Your Neighbor's Porch Day (coming up in August -- I webpbn'ed it last year) and Talk Like A Pirate Day, which varies from year to year, but is September 19 in 2023 and I've encountered others than myself who celebrate it. And of course Pi Day (3/14) and Star Wars Day May the fourth be with you)....

Actually Talk Like A Pirate Day is always September 19th. It's a family member's birthday, so I happened to notice.

One of my kids has a birthday on Edible Book Day. It's surely a made-up holiday, but we like the idea anyway. One year I made him an edible book birthday cake, which was fun. He has loved books since he was a tiny baby, so it's fitting.

I looked up when is Sneak Some Zucchini Onto Your Neighbor's Porch day, and some random website says it is August 8th. Though I think maybe it should be celebrated for the entire month of August.
