I did this with no dots pursuant to a comment that Bill E made on a different puzzle (#36896). It was tough but I realize now that this is a feature I've been missing! I was certain in the past I saw some puzzles' white areas fill in automatically but I was not sure how or why, and eventually began to question whether I ever really saw that happen. Considering I almost never manually mark the column or row numbers to show which are complete, forgoing dots at the same time makes my brain hurt, so it's probably a challenge I'll avoid except for what seem like they'll be simpler puzzles.

Michael - In case it's useful: If you fill in everything else on the screen and then click "save," then the website automatically fills in the dots.
