Puzzle Description:

As a kid we used to climb on this arrangement of 27 cubes formed by bars, plus one cube at the very top: monkey bars. Can't imagine it would be a choice for modern playground equipment.

I loved climbing on the monkey bars! What a loss for all future generations!

Here's a relevant video! Tom Scott just put out one about how the first jungle gym was meant to hack kids' brains. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rn_8GXNN7_Q

Thanks Juli. I had forgotten that certain horizontal bars were missing...this allowed us to hang upside down with our legs hooked over a higher bar.

Had one like this at my school. (I thought it was bigger, but maybe I was just smaller.) Great spot for a first grader to pick up chicks! :)

When I was in grade school, the monkey bars were one my favorite parts of the playground. Lots of injuries, unfortunately. My friend broke her arm, and my brother's friend broke his leg. I had a few hard falls too, but there were still so many positive, fun memories. :)

No judgement, but it blows my mind how many people here call this Monkey Bars. These are not Monkey Bars, but a Jungle Gym. Monkey Bars are basically a horizontal ladder supported by a vertical ladder at each end. The idea being that kids swing from one bar to the next thus appearing like a monkey.

We called them monkey bars because that was what everyone called them in my neighborhood growing up. It didn't matter if they were cubed or arched or dome shaped. And they were the favorite thing to play on at every playground.
