Puzzle Description:

National No Dirty Dishes Day!

#1: Norma Dee (norm0908) on May 10, 2023

Looks like your are doing a good job of getting your dishes clean.

I much prefer handwashing to a dishwasher. I guess it springs from my days living single. I'd wash them right after eating, and put them away later. Whenever I used the dishwasher, I'd use up all my utensils, plates, cups and everything else.

People claim that a dishwasher uses less water, but it also uses a lot more electricity.

My wife insists on using the dishwasher. So now I have rules, like you can't put the spreader in there (I only have one, and I use it several times every day.)

Let's have a poll of pbn-ers: Handwash? Dishwash?

My dad used to wash the dishes, then put them in the dishwasher!

Dishwash.

I could produce more good for the world during that time than any bad my dishwasher draws from it in the form of electricity and waste.

... I probably don't, but I could.

I will not be celebrating National No Dirty Dishes Day...ever. I always have some. Sigh.
#5: Joanne Firla (JoFirla) on May 11, 2023 [SPOILER]
We don't have a dishwasher, so I guess we fall under hand wash.

My Mom had this poem hanging on her kitchen wall:

Welcome to our kitchen
It has a tale to tell
While others may go hungry
We're eating very well
With home, health and happiness
We shouldn't want to fuss
By the stack of evidence
God has been very good to us

People who say you save water by using the dishwasher must be the ones who leave the tap running the whole time they are washing by hand. If you don't overfill the sink to wash by hand, there is no way that would be more than a dishwasher uses.

Mostly dishwasher, a few by hand.

I was skeptical of the dishwasher water usage, but I measured mine and it used only a few gallons, less than it took me to handwash a big pile of dishes between soaking, scrubbing, and rinsing.

Dishwasher here. It's better than I am at getting all the impossible-to-reach bits really clean.
#10: Norma Dee (norm0908) on May 14, 2023
For people who measure that amount of water they use in their dishwasher do they include all the water they use to rinse all the dishes before they put them in the dishwasher?
#11: Valerie Mates (valerie) on May 15, 2023 [SPOILER]
I think the advice is to just scrape off your plates and then put them right into the dishwasher without rinsing. For whatever that's worth. In my experience, some dishwashers can handle that and others can't.

Ours cannot handle food particles left on the plate!! No matter how much I rinse beforehand, every so often the filter -I think it is the filter -- needs to be cleaned.
