What a dumb reason to rename something. Don't they know that our language is littered with things like that?

coconut? not a nut.
hedgehog? not a hog.
bookworm? not a worm.
typeface? not a face.
sawhorse? not a horse.
jellyfish? not a fish.
strawberry? not a berry.
prairie dog? not a dog.
microphone? not a phone.
clarinet? not a net.
unicorn? not corn.

I obviously shifted to more ridiculous examples as I went on, but it really is absurd. Crawfish aren't fish either and sea cucumbers aren't cucumbers. I just don't get the need to get pedantic.
#11: Joe (infrapinklizzard) on May 22, 2026
The reason is to make puzzles from it

Marinebiologists get pedantic for puzzle-related purposes?
:)

Web paint-by-numbers is not painting. If it was, I wouldn't be allowed on this site.

David, you should be making these into puzzles. I thought an actual bookworm was a worm.
#15: David Bouldin (dbouldin) on May 24, 2026
Wait, are there actual bookworm worms? :)
#16: Brian Bellis (mootpoint) on May 24, 2026
I just looked. Beetle larvae, silver fish (not a fish), and book lice.
