When I was 10, we took a trip to the Grand Canyon and took a mule ride, which at the time was the most popular and famous thing to do. My mom's mule started wandering off the path, heading down a VERY steep section on his own. My mom was naturally terrified, and so was anyone else, and my father asked the guide something about how much danger my mom was in.

The guide said "We've never lost a mule."

How very reassuring.

I'm a city girl, but on our honeymoon, we went horseback riding. My husband's horse threw him! He wasn't hurt. Only a skinned forearm.

While visiting a friend and her children, my daughter (about 10) went horseback riding with one of her daughters. When they got back and we asked how it wemt, my friend's daughter explained by daughter's departure from her horse by saying she took flying lessons.

Bill, what happened next? Was your mom okay? Did the mule rejoin the group on its own, or did someone need to do something to bring it back? Inquiring minds want to know!
