Our high school graduation was supposed to take place in our new gym next door to the high school, but there were dalays so they had to use the high school auditorium. They found some old wooden bleachers which they erected on the stage and covered with brown paper. Fortunately I was wearing some sensible sandles with about a 2" heel as I would have to go to the piano a few times to accompany solos and didn't want to be teetering around on spikes. I was sitting on the top row of the bleachers and when it was time for me to go to the piano I got up and my boy friend that I marched with helped me step up to the seating bench below us. From there I stepped down to the next bench but I did not know that there was nothing under the paper where I stepped as they had extended the paper to make the bleachers look even. Luckily my boyfriend still had my hand and kept me upright. But there I was facing the audience with one foot on the stage and the other quite a bit higher.

AND you kept your hat on!

Being a small town where everybody knew everybody I was embarrased for a long time.

But, as Brash said, I kept my hat on!
