If so, I don't understand the symbolism.

I'm confused. I tried google translate and it didn't recognize this, so I don't know what it means or in which language.

According to Wikipedia, Moon Jae-in was the President of South Korea from 2017 to 2022. Hong Joon-pyo is the current Mayor of Daegu. An Cheol-su (or Ahn Cheol-soo) is a South Korean politician and entrepreneur.

According to the New York Times, they were the three leading candidates in the 2017 election for South Korea's President, which was won by Moon Jae-in. (The recently elected current President is Yoon Suk-yeol.)

I don't recognize the 'badge' shown in the solution, nor do I know why these three politicians are named here. Have their three parties formed an alliance perhaps?

These are three candidates on Presidential Election 2017. Three colors symbolize each political party the candidates were in.
Blue = Democratic Party
Red = Liberty Korea Party (Currently People Power Party)
Green = People's Party (Currently merged into People Power Party)
