Hello to everyone. I love, LOVE this site! Thanks for creating yet another distraction for me! I have problems with the large puzzles as I imagine most people do. Is there any way to create a puzzle format that allows the number clues to 'hover' over sections that one is working? This would allow most people and me the opportunity to attempt the larger puzzles. Thanks for listening.#2: Kristen Vognild (Kristen) on Oct 19, 2012

You can use the arrow keys to move the clues around. Press the down arrow to move the clues to the bottom of the screen, or press the right arrow to move the horizontal clues to the right side of the screen.#3: Denise Howard (bonnieblackhair) on Nov 26, 2012
Is anyone experiencing a very slow reaction time on the large puzzles? It seems to be recent and only happens on the big ones.#4: Norma Dee (norm0908) on Nov 26, 2012
Everything seems to be getting slower. I am getting timed out just trying to log on. I even did a defrag today to see if that would help. It may have a little.#5: Adam Nielson (monkeyboy) on Nov 26, 2012
Both loading new puzzles and checking new comments are especially slow for me. It's getting ridiculous.#6: Norma Dee (norm0908) on Nov 26, 2012
I'm kind of reminded of HAL in 2001: Space Odyssey where the wonderful super computer malfunctioned and turned on the humans. Jan created this wonderful site for people to enjoy, but it has attracted so many users that the site is getting "clogged up" and making it difficult to enjoy it anymore.#7: Denise Howard (bonnieblackhair) on Nov 28, 2012
I agree, it seems like I can't solve a large puzzle anymore because it takes so much time for the squares to respond.#8: Norma Dee (norm0908) on Nov 28, 2012
Tonight when I logged on I was getting messages I'd never seen before. One even suggested that the site was down. Which would have been good if it were being worked on, but that wasn't the case.#9: Jan Wolter (jan) on May 8, 2013
Slowness on puzzle listings and loading is due to my software (and server budget) being inadequate for the load on the website. I'm working on improving this with limited success so far.
Slowness in responding to clicks on the puzzle has nothing to do with the server. Click the "Options" button on the puzzle page, and uncheck the "Automatic Error Checking" option. It will get very fast, but you will lose the redballs.
I had kind of hoped that as computers got faster and browsers got better, the error checking would speed up. But however much the browser builders boast about how much faster their browsers are, they somehow don't seem to get a lot faster.
