Found to be solvable with moderate lookahead by blurglecruncheon.#2: Andrew Schultz (blurglecruncheon) on Mar 16, 2022 [HINT] [SPOILER]
This has some edge logic and some smile logic, at least how I solved it. The tail of the bird in the upper right/conservation is smile logic, and the branch to the left needed some lookahead, as did the bottom row in the left.#3: Kristen Vognild (kristen) on Mar 16, 2022 [HINT]
This had an interesting mix of strategies, and it was the hardest one to try to draw of the three (#35620/#35621 being the others) because of the details in the awards themselves that were hard to capture in full, so I had to bowdlerize. But it was fun, and I hope people enjoyed seeing them all. It brought back more good memories of Boy Scouts than I thought it would.
I used summing in rows 28 and 29, which I suppose is a variation of smile logic. :)#4: Web Paint-By-Number Robot (webpbn) on Mar 16, 2022
Found to be solvable with moderate lookahead by gator.#5: Gator (gator) on Mar 16, 2022 [HINT]
After color/line logic, EL on R7 places the 2 clue. LL finishes the top/left.#6: Gator (gator) on Mar 16, 2022 [SPOILER]
I saw this next part early on and was hoping the puzzle would force me to use it. I was not disappointed! In the bottom/left, you can use alternating smile logic to fill in R28-29C6-15. LL to finish that section.
EL in C28 makes R1,14C28 dots. LL. Smile logic finishes off the blue and LL to finish.
Great puzzle!
I liked how the puzzle skill level required increased with each puzzle. Intentional to correspond to the higher skill award numbers?#7: Philip (Philip) on Mar 18, 2022 [HINT]
Fun solve! I liked the summing/alternating smile logic in R28-29.#8: JoDeen Mozena (ozymoe) on Mar 18, 2022
Loved it!#9: Janice Moule (jmoule) on Mar 21, 2022
Nice little series. My son was in Boy Scouts and this brings back memories!#10: Michael Eddy (meddy) on Apr 4, 2022 [SPOILER]
I thought the top left one was a crested duck doing calligraphy until I looked up a photo of the skill awards.
I joined the boy scouts in late 1989 so I guess I just missed the boat on these awards. I don't remember ever seeing them or even hearing about them, which is surprising if they went out of use earlier that same year (though I do remember having something similar in cub scouts). We had merit badge versions of most of these though, which were "special" in the sense that they had different-colored embroidery on the edges compared to other merit badges, and (iirc) it was required to get all of them to be an Eagle scout. I never got past Life rank, myself.
