Beautiful picture. Would have been a better puzzle with some white space. Without white space it is very easy to just colour in.
#2: Kristen Vognild (kristen) on Mar 13, 2021
agreed. My heart sinks a little, when the first time I click on a new puzzle, it goes straight to black.
#3: BlackCat (BlackCat) on Mar 13, 2021
Interesting illustration. The neck is a little odd. I like the birds. I agree that it would be more fun with some white spaces. Still, it is a good image.

Gerda, when all the row and column number clues add up to the column and row dimensions, it's a fill-in, not a puzzle. Puzzles that need solving, like those you've created until this one, are enjoyable. Also, this title gives the picture away. The title can be part of the fun for solvers, which you accomplished in your Fishing puzzle. This is not intended as a criticism but as an encouragement to keep at it.
#5: Jota (jota) on Mar 13, 2021
Agreed! Not a puzzle, but I fill-in.
#6: CB Paul (cbpaul) on Mar 13, 2021
Not agreed. I understand Lollipop's distinction between puzzle and fill-in, but still, you have to pay attention, and you get to watch the image emerge. Which is a good chunk of why we do this, right?
This is a unique image, from my (er) vast number of solves on this (wonderful) website. Cool.

I too was dissappointed when I discovered a fill in. This could have been such a nice puzzle.

New version published by gerda12.
#9: CB Paul (cbpaul) on Mar 14, 2021
Yeah, I'm solving the new version. I cleared the screen and started over. BUT when I "check", it tells me all is good, but when I "save", it marks mistakes everywhere and tells me I solved an older version. So I "revert" to the last saved board, and it's saves the most recent/correct board. Weird. We'll see how it goes when I finish it.

Yeah, it's still good. And of course a trickier solve. But I did like that red image alot.

This puzzle is great. Thanks for making the change.

You can leave MOST of the red, (because I agree with CB, the red WAS striking). Maybe some wispy white clouds across the background (mostly horizontal, but with a bit of wave).
#12: Michael Eddy (meddy) on Mar 15, 2021
This might be an unpopular opinion but I think it's good to have some easy ones - not everybody solves at the same level as the rest of us. Just mark it as easy and move on so at least beginners and more casual solvers can find it in the search.

That said, I didn't see the original version of this, and this version does seem to require some guessing.
#13: CB Paul (cbpaul) on Mar 15, 2021
I agree with meddy; that's the point I was making earlier. Nothing wrong with easy. Gerda, don't worry; have fun making puzzles!

Found to be solvable with deep lookahead by dbouldin.
#15: David Bouldin (dbouldin) on Mar 15, 2021
Have only seen the version current published. Solved it without guessing but the lower left took one two-step lookahead. i didn't write down my steps, so I'll resolve later if someone doesn't jump in with a walk-through in the meantime. nice challenge!

Good image, really captures it.
#19: Joanne Firla (JoFirla) on Mar 16, 2021
I solved the first version and the second. I agree that the first one may have been a fill in, but I thought the image was striking. And I didn't mind that the first one was easy because the finished picture was worth the time.
