Puzzle Description:

When You Trap a Tiger by Tae Keller. It's a children's book and the winner of this year's Newberry Medal.

In Korean folklore there was a bear and a tiger who wanted to become human. But they had to wait for it. The bear waited and so became a woman, who waits for her time and accepts her fate. The tiger was impatient and wouldn't wait, and so was fated to roam the jungles as a wild animal. But the author wondered, what about the women who, like tigers, will not wait for their fate, but fight to create their own destiny. And that lead to When You Trap a Tiger, and star jars and mystic tigers who bargain with girls.

Thanks for the comments. I really enjoyed the book. I read adult books too, but they aren't as fun to illustrate. Mostly they consist of a bunch of people talking.

Belita, I checked this book out of the library because of this puzzle, and this evening I finished reading it. I had a hard time with the early chapters, because the people seemed so lonely and unpleasant toward each other. I almost stopped reading it, but I was curious about where it was going, so I kept reading. And the book revved up into a really interesting and worthwhile story. Thanks for posting about it!

The internet was down at the library yesterday, for about 4 hours, so I was reading at the desk. :)
