Puzzle Description:

I got my covid vaccination yesterday (first dose)! It feels so good to be on the road to be "getting back to normal"! So, I was thinking, I could call this a "real shot in the arm" (pun intended). Then I began to wonder where the expression came from. I did a google search and discovered it comes from the euphoric feeling people get from a shot of vitamins. So, no pun intended.

That's great! I'm lookin' forward to "NORMAL"
#3: Susan Nagy (susannagy54) on Feb 6, 2021
As are we all Dan! I am beginning to hear more stories about people who have been waiting and waiting and then BOOM -- they have got their vaccines. So hang in there -- its coming!!
#4: Kristen Vognild (kristen) on Feb 6, 2021 [SPOILER]
Ooh, good one! My husband gets his first in about a week, through the VA. I just have to keep waiting. :)
#5: Jota (jota) on Feb 6, 2021
Cool Susan! We'll wait our turn.
#6: Susan Nagy (susannagy54) on Feb 6, 2021
Thanks Kristen and Jota!!
#7: BlackCat (BlackCat) on Feb 6, 2021
Great illustration and great news!
#8: Valerie Mates (valerie) on Feb 6, 2021 [SPOILER]
Oh my, that did *not* look to me like an arm! Until I read the description I was thinking it was something else.

Yay for vaccinations!
#9: Valerie Mates (valerie) on Feb 6, 2021 [HINT]
This puzzle is marked as solveable by line and color logic, but I had to use lookahead to solve it. What do other people think about whether it can be solved with line and color logic?
#10: Susan Nagy (susannagy54) on Feb 6, 2021
Thank you black cat!
Thanks Valerie!! I was thinking just an "L" shape for the arm, and didn't think much about muscles for shoulders and elbows, etc. Then I concentrated on the needle and the vaccine, and when I had something I thought looked half-way decent, I "checked" and saw that it was solveable by line and color logic, so I decided to leave well enough alone, and go with it.
#11: Jota (jota) on Feb 8, 2021
Indeed I needed lookahead to place the 2 black in column 9, after that it was a breeze.
#12: Michael Eddy (meddy) on Feb 8, 2021 [HINT]
I think I used a small bit of lookahead when I was working on the blue 3 in c26 but that's it.
#13: Valerie Mates (valerie) on Feb 8, 2021 [HINT]
Ok, I'm going to mark it as needing lookahead.
#14: Web Paint-By-Number Robot (webpbn) on Feb 8, 2021
Found to be solvable with moderate lookahead by valerie.
#15: Susan Nagy (susannagy54) on Feb 8, 2021
Thanks for the feedback Jota and Michael and Valerie! I "solved" it myself yesterday, and it got a bit tedious at times, even though I knew the final outcome but had to pretend I didn't. In the future I think I will try solving before publishing.
#16: David Bouldin (dbouldin) on Feb 8, 2021 [HINT]
laughed so hard at your first comment valerie!

ok, i solved again because i didn't think i had done anything but color and line logic. not going to get on my soapbox about the fact that some color logic is multi-line, but anyway. here's the trickiest color logic move:

- the black 4 in C25 can't start in R11 because it's not blue, so C25R15 is black

everything else mostly straight-forward line and color :)
#17: Dave Kendall (dkthedj8) on Feb 9, 2021 [HINT]
It all fell into place for me when I realized C24 rows 8&9 had to black because C25-27 could only be blue. After that, smooth sailing. I did not use lookahead.
#18: Dave Kendall (dkthedj8) on Feb 9, 2021 [SPOILER]
Plus, I got my second dose last Wednesday cause I'm a high school coach! Need my wife to get an appointment now. Fingers crossed!
#19: Susan Nagy (susannagy54) on Feb 9, 2021
Fingers crossed Dave! For your wife, my brother-in-law, ... the list goes on!!
#20: Ga Hendrick (GaHendrick) on Feb 10, 2021 [SPOILER]
Excellent use of color to illustrate the injection.
I live in one of the states (ID that are getting fewer doses because the CDC isn't counting children and we have far more than average number of children here. Still patiently waiting.
#21: Valerie Mates (valerie) on Feb 11, 2021 [HINT]
David: I was wondering if anybody had read it! Or had the same misinterpretation that I did!

Would you say that that switches it to color logic and not lookahead?
#22: Valerie Mates (valerie) on Feb 11, 2021
David (dbouldin), I added you to the list of people who can officially set the solvability and uniqueness of a puzzle.
#23: David Bouldin (dbouldin) on Feb 11, 2021 [HINT]
Thanks Valerie!
...and yes, I think that meets Jan's definition of color logic. color logic can look at more than row at a time as long as it is just checking for the clue color, not the clue number. Sometimes we used color as a part of an edge logic move, but that's lookahead. color logic can be VERY difficult to find, but once you find it, it still might not be lookahead :)
#24: Web Paint-By-Number Robot (webpbn) on Feb 11, 2021
Found to be solvable by line and color logic alone by valerie.
#25: Valerie Mates (valerie) on Feb 11, 2021
Ok, I set it back to color-and-line logic (as you can see).
#26: David Bouldin (dbouldin) on Feb 11, 2021 [HINT]
Thanks Valerie!

how i understand it: color logic can look at more than row at a time as long as it is just checking for the clue color, not the clue number. Sometimes we used color as a part of an edge logic move, but that's lookahead. color logic can be VERY difficult to find, but once you find it, it still might not be lookahead :)

Thanks everyone for the comments. Yes, color logic can be hard!
I hope the CDC realizes soon that there are a lot of children around!!
My sister and I are both in our 60's, my mom is in her90's, so we all meet that age limit. Now we are waiting for my nephew's and niece's turns -- who are in their 30's.
#28: Gator (gator) on Mar 1, 2021 [HINT]
Agreed that this is line/color solvable.

Nice puzzle!
#29: JoDeen Mozena (ozymoe) on Mar 2, 2021
I'm late to the party, but you really had me laughing at #8 too, Valerie!...reeeeeally wondered where Susan was going with this one! I enjoyed this puzzle, had to chew on it...yummy!

Btw...I think I'm getting my first dose tomorrow. Crossing fingers.
#30: Susan Nagy (susannagy54) on Mar 5, 2021
Thank you Gator and JoDeen!!! (I too was wondering what Valerie thought it might be!!)
#31: Valerie Mates (valerie) on Mar 6, 2021 [SPOILER]
Susan - Oh! I didn't mean to be obscure. Until I read the description, I thought the arm in this puzzle looked very phallic -- though with an unexplained red and blue clip on it??? I don't want to know!
#32: Susan Nagy (susannagy54) on Mar 6, 2021
Now I see, Valerie!
#33: David Bouldin (dbouldin) on Mar 8, 2021
Guess that says something about me that I knew exactly what you meant Valerie :P
#34: Shrek4fun (Shrek4fun) on Mar 17, 2022 [SPOILER]
Thanks Susan.
Adding a thumb and fingers to the hand would lessen the phallic resemblance lol.

My experience with covid was not a good one. I'm in my 60's with heart trouble. I got it before vaccinations were available in my area, December of 2020. I wore a mask and followed social distancing, ets. I was not offered any medication. Told to take over the counter meds and go to the hospital if it got bad. It was like the worst flu i ever had and the worst pneumonia i ever had combined. Several times i thought i would have to go to the hospital but thankfully didn't. Sadly their focus on the vaccines instead of treatment cost a lot of lives. People close to me died for lack of treatment options. The doctors who came up with successful treatments were ignored, even villified. The CDC and others only tested each individual drug used, not the combinations that were successfully working.

Once i recovered i knew i had my own antibodies so the vaccine wasn't a priority any more. And even if it had been available i was told i would have to wait months to take it after being sick. Not sure why...

In September i got covid again. Still wearing a mask and social distancing. This time it was like a cold and i never even ran a fever. I got tested to be sure if it was covid so i wouldn't spread it if it was. Quarantined again. So my antibodies did their job just like God designed them to.

What some people are believing is that the vaccine will keep you from getting covid. That is not the case. It will just help your immune system fight it like mine did the second time. it will be milder. I personally know MANY fully vaccinated people who have gotten sick. Some worse than others. One person even died. Not sure if there were any underlying conditions that added to it.

Recently at an event with a group of vaccinated people, 5 of them got covid. I didn't, not sure why. So just dont think the vaccine will keep you from getting sick. But it can help you.

If you get sick, get the infusion. It quickly works to boost your immune system and lessen the symptoms. People i know who got it were better within 3 days. And find a doctor and pharmacy who are brave enough to prescribe you and dispense to you the meds that work.

Sadly all of this has caused division with people for and against vaccinations, forced vaccinations, and who is right or wrong about treatments. May this be a wake up call and get us working for solutions and a way to get back to a more normal life.

Ok i will get off my soapbox.

Blessings to you all!
