I watched it from the start, not just day before yesterday, but many, many months before the election.#10: Michael Eddy (meddy) on Jan 8, 2021
I watched main stream media outlets report unfairly. Biden good. Trump bad. Always bad.
I watched blue cities burn, businesses destroyed, people beat up in the streets, and police shot while sitting in their cars, while media swells and elected officials called for an understanding of those inflicting violence.
I watched rallies with legions of enthusiastic people, and rallies with a few cars and a smattering of attendees.
I watched as a pandemic was used to create election havoc, with massive amounts of mail-in ballots issued, sometimes without state legislative consent. Never let a crisis go to waste, indeed.
I watched election results go one way, then mysteriously flip in the dead of night.
I watched many hours of state committee meetings, and testimonials from poll workers and data analysists in swing states - all of whom signed affidavits - claiming fraud on a massive scale.
I watched as legal experts told us "the shoe was about to drop" a hundred times, building hope that justice would be done. In the end, the shoe stayed firmly on the closet shelf. "Release the Kraken" sold a lot of tee-shirts, though.
I watched the surveillance video of midnight shenanigans at the State Farm Arena in Atlanta, as boxes of ballots were pulled from beneath tables after poll watchers were dismissed for the evening. Why any of the people on that film haven't been brought in for questioning is still blatantly unanswered.
I watched a candidate's involvement in foreign, pocket-lining deals revealed by a credible source, while the main stream media said nothing.
I watched three-and-a-half years of torment of the other candidate, claiming Russian conspiracy as a reason for impeachment, which was later deemed a hoax. The mainstream media said everything about conspiracy. It said nothing about hoax.
I watched as the election process cracked and shattered, leaving many to wonder if "fair" is a myth.
I watched the narrative shift - from there was no fraud, to no widespread fraud, to not enough fraud to change the outcome.
I watched as countless millions of voters were told to suck-it-up, accept the results, and unify under a candidate - one with questionable competence - who was largely invisible and silent during the campaign.
I watched all three branches of government fall to a mindset that has whispered - nay outright called - for court packing, and granting statehood in ways that will permanently secure their power.
I watched tens/hundreds of thousands of people converge on Washington D.C. in support of their candidate, in hopes Congress would hear their pleas to investigate the election with unbiased eyes.
I watched the Capitol surrounded, breached and attacked, with suspicions that ANTIFA might be in play, yet Trump supporters took 100% of the blame.
I'm exhausted, thoroughly disappointed, and cynical about truth and justice at state and federal levels of government.
I could accept the results of a fair election, but I see this one as anything but fair.
Is violence justified? I don't know. I guess we'll have to wait and see how the party with its newfound power behaves in the years to come.
But what I saw on the Capitol grounds yesterday wasn't the true us. It was years in the making, with elected officials ignoring the electorate.
Thomas Jefferson said, "When government fears the people, there is liberty. When the people fear the government, there is tyranny."
In some small way, I hope government fears us now, if just a little bit more than they did before.
God help us all.
onward.
So, it's all official now... Biden will be sworn in on the 20th (and my gut tells me, will hold that office less than 6 months before being declared "incompetent")... if anyone tried to enact the 25th, Trump has the legal right to defend himself, which would drag the proceedings on for months... so my suggestion is to be happy that the Democrats have control, and if you want the other side to lose graciously then you must win graciously... let it go and move on...
Stephanie, have you only been watching fox news over the last 4+ years? Because this presidency has been objectively bad in many ways. Not in all ways, I grant you, but in many important ways. What we've seen this week is horrible but honestly not surprising. The beliefs you've communicated above are pretty typical of people who only get their news from a small number of specific sources, or from memes shared within their echo chamber.#11: Stephanie Walker (callmeseverus) on Jan 8, 2021
I don't watch any of the main stream media channels, none can be trusted to present an unbiased report of the facts.#12: Stephanie Walker (callmeseverus) on Jan 8, 2021
Actually, I don't even have tv (cable or satellite).#13: BlackCat (BlackCat) on Jan 8, 2021
i agree that no matter what has led up to this, a President who openly encourages conflict is unfit for office.#14: Belita (belita) on Jan 8, 2021
The best way to get news is from a variety of sources, whether or not you trust them. That's the only way to get the full picture. Our country is so divided among the right-wing and the left-wing media sources, it's no wonder we can't understand how the other side can possibly see things the way they do. And if you look at all the news it might actually occur to you that the 90% you don't trust may be right and the 10% you like might be full of baloney.#15: JoDeen Mozena (ozymoe) on Jan 10, 2021
Stephanie, I have been watching as well...and listening...and reading. Much of what you have said is based on unfounded conspiracy theories that have been shown to be false. Just because trump claims it is true or not true does not make it so...no matter how many times he says it or how official he makes it sound. He really knows nothing about half the things about which he speaks. The people he has appointed to head many of the government jobs they hold are not experts either. Not only are they not experts, some of them are actually totally unqualified for the job! He has given us a first hand look at how to destroy our democracy from within. Russia is slavering. He has played right into China's hands. The man has all but ruined us on the world stage trying to further his own personal interests...and whatever you have heard from your sources, no, Joe Biden is not incompetent, rather the opposite. I'm not sure he even golfs. He and Kamala will steer the country back onto firm footing.#16: Joe (infrapinklizzard) on Jan 10, 2021 [HINT]
