Quite fun to solve. I vaguely remember this from one of my courses.

It excites me that someone else has thought of the grid with the idea of expressing mathematical patterns. I've wanted to do this but can't quite settle on a method, and I have to admit, my solution/expression might not show enough white space, which seems to be an overriding criterion for some on this site....

There was a time in the 60s when different base systems were taught in the elementary school. Kids got it but it confused the heck out of the parents. They had to have special night classes for parents so they could help with homework.
