I was following Zeta and was wondering if you were affected, Sorry to hear about the power loss. Sadly they are tracking two more storms in the Atlantic. Hope they fizzle out.

We were lucky--no damage to the house, and only lots and lots of fallen pine branches. Our mulberry tree is now naked on top, but the leaves must've blown into a neighbor's yard.

We had several pounds of thawed sausage and a thawed chicken in the freezer, so this morning I started a pot of gumbo. When I get home after 5, I'll de-bone the chicken, and then we can cook some rice and eat!

The gumbo came out really well, too. I forgot to sprinkle any file' powder (dried sassafras leaves) over the top, so I'm sprinkling some over the individual containers of leftovers. :)

oh man! as much as i love okra, i tend to prefer gumbo thickened with file instead. now i'm craving cajun. i think i'm going to pull some andouille out of the fridge and shrimp from the freezer and make some jambalaya for lunch.

I've always done the chicken & sausage gumbo, because I'm not a fan of the sea beasties.

I good with everything except okra. If it has okra, I'm picking it out.

pick them out...then bread them and fry them and dip them in white gravy...THEN you're set!

Or...pick them out, dredge them in egg wash, corn meal, deep fry them, smother them in gravy and then throw them away because they are still too slimy to be edible. Okra has the consistency of something that is snot pudding.
