We've had a longstanding not-very-funny family running joke about this phrase for a really long time. Neat to see it here!

A Halloween escapee?
#7: BlackCat (BlackCat) on Oct 6, 2020
Don't understand this at all.

STOP A HEAD instead of STOP AHEAD. The head is going right into that brick wall. Come on Black Cat, this one is funny.

I certainly see the humor. Great puzzle and an interesting use of color. Thanks.

A friend and I still occasionally in the car grab the top of each other's head and scream "Stop a head" when we see that sign, especially if someone's in the back seat to be entertained. (We also one time stopped in front of a car behind us on a small rural road, ran behind our car, in front of hers, did a single hip bump, pointed to the "Bump in road" sign we had just passed and she was still facing, ran back into the car and continued on. Yes, she was amused.)

Oh my goodness! Glad she was amused!!!

love this! and the bump in road. I always shake my head sadly when I see that there are SLOW CHILDREN PLAYING.

The coast is clear for speeding when you know there are no kids around, so it's nice that people put signs out when CHILDREN AT PLAY

Then there are the signs that say, "SLOW SCHOOL". That always makes me picture a school building moving very slowly across the landscape.
