you were living on the yacht at the time??
Gosh. That sounds so fun and lavish.
#12: Marie-Louise Ambrey (marz) on Oct 24, 2008
Yes, my Dad built the yacht, it was a 50ft steel schooner. We lived on it for 6 years, we just travelled around Tasmania and then sailed it up to the Australian mainland. We were poor all the time, but it was fun, and we would often be eating fresh seafood that fisherman friends gave to us or we caught, so we would say, "I wonder what the poor people are eating today" so it was very lavish at times, hehe! :)

wowee Marz. That sounds like an awesome life with many fun stories. :) I love unique lives.

Excellent puzzle. Nice flow of logic (if that makes sense) and a nice picture. At any rate, it was fun to solve!
#15: Mary Thomas (marleethom) on Dec 11, 2008
Right off, I knew it was George Washington. No question in my mind, then maybe one of the Caesers. Good puzzle, good title too.

Fantastic puzzle. Very rewarding to finally realize what it was when I finally finished it. It must really have taken some time to design this!
#17: Tonia Bergh (tonia) on Mar 20, 2009
Beautiful image! I must admit I was a little disappointed, though, because I thought it would be Johnny Depp (from the title "Blow"...)
#18: Adam Nielson (monkeyboy) on Jun 28, 2009
I liked this one a lot. Again.

I just looked back at old comments and something belatedly clicked for me. Marz's dad built a 50ft steel schooner? How the heck do you build a 50ft steel schooner? That's a serious boat. I mean, if you have a shipyard laying around, sure, but I wouldn't have thought you could do that in your garage. Guess I'll never know, since Marz doesn't come around so much any more.
#21: Byrdie (byrdie) on Nov 15, 2009
Yeah, I saw that too. That's pretty impressive, especially from steel. I'm kind of hoping she comes back to tell us more.
#22: Jota (jota) on Nov 15, 2009
She's going to university, but someday she'll have vacations.

Hi guys, it's me! Thanks to Deana, she asked me to come around and check a question for me.

Well, he did get the steel from a shipyard, huge big plates of used rusty steel from old ships I guess. He had never done anything like this before, he just followed instructions from a few books. He did most of it single handed, he got us kids and mum to help when we could. He had a couple of good friends that helped out when there was some major work to be done. He started with a steel frame first, then he would cut, bend and then weld the plates of steel onto the frame. When that was all done he used a grinder and a sandblaster to get the steel all nice and ready to paint. We lived on a small property out in the country, so he had plenty of space for it. All the country folk thought we were crazy. The ocean was miles away. They dubbed the boat Martins Ark, Martin being our last name. Before the boat was fully finished Dad hired a big semi trailer truck and a crane to take to the sea, it stayed in dry dock for a while until it was sea worthy. The trip made front page of the local newspaper. I cant remember exactly how long it took to build, probably about 4-5 years I think. It was nice wide yacht, with a shallow keel and lots of ballast, which was handy when we would sometimes get stuck on a sand bar and the tide went out. It was a good safe boat, and very pretty to look at too. I think my Dad is amazing for building it. He has built a motorbike, a sort of car/buggy, model boats, furniture and all sorts of other things, very talented he is.

Merry Christmas everybody, and Happy New Year too!

Wow, that is seriously impressive. A testament to what one man can do if he sets his mind to it. You dad must have been an amazing guy.

Wow! First a fun solve with a beautiful image. Then an interesting story about Marz living on a yaght built by her Dad. How fun!

This is just beautiful (to echo the 9 or so people who already said so). Once I'd finished the bottom section, I thought it might be the logo from Monty Python's Holy Grail :)

I imagined many different (wrong) answers before the image finally clicked for me near the end. Just beautiful!

Just found this puzzle...to add to the comments, the entire time I was solving, the phrase (from some Broadway musical) "Blow, Gabriel, blow..." was singing in my head. Now I can't get it out.
