I recently did this while bird watching. I was on a woodland path and not concrete thankfully. I face planted into some cushy undergrowth which included poison ivy but happliy didn't get it! Cool puzzle, Brian!

I tripped on a raised bit of sidewalk and stubbed my toe pretty hard. I didn't go down but I find as I get older, this kind of thing jars me to the very core. My back and shoulders were sore for a couple of days after.

Ah, thank you Aurelian! A woman did ask me if I needed a bandaid, and that made me think I must be bleeding! (I wasn't.) I was with my son and he took good care of me. :-)

A few years ago I was walking through my yard on the way to my car and was not looking where I was going and tripped over the small stump of a dead rose bush. I broke my right arm and while in the hospital and then the nursing home where they sent me I found one of the most annoying things was the stream of "do gooders" who each thought that with their clever questions they could get me to admit that I was either drunk or high on drugs. Or both, perhaps. So I stopped them by saying, "Before you start let me tell you what happened. I tripped. I fell. I broke my arm. No drugs. No alcohol. End of story."
#19: Barb Edwards (babarann) on Jun 21, 2020
So sorry for your bad fall, Norma! Good for you for setting the nosey ones straight!
#20: Norma Dee (norm0908) on Jun 21, 2020
Thank you Babarann.
#21: Aurelian Ginkgo (AurelianGinkgo) on Jun 21, 2020
I don't get it, Norma. Why would people think you weren't sober? Who just comes to the conclusion, "Oh, this person has a broken arm. They must have been drunk or high."

Briefly, Aurelianm: Roughly four out of every five older adults who are treated for substance abuse disorders are struggling with a drinking problem[CG10] . However, more seniors are seeking treatment for alcoholism than ever before.May 19, 2020

So when an elderly person falls they automatically suspect they had a balance problem due to drinking or drugs. Most of these people, of course, don't want to admit they have a problem so the social workers, etc. have to try various approaches to find out if someone is addicted.

Fortunately I do not have a problem with either alcohol or drugs. But I am certainly sympathetic. After all, "There but for the grace of God......."

But you had to be there to watch these people think they were so very clever in worming the truth out of me that I was higher that a kite. In a way it was kind of funny, but after several people seemed to feel they were more clever than the last person that grilled me it got annoying.

There are quite a few articles on the internet that address the problem. Here's one of several: https://alcoholaddictioncenter.org/elder-alcohol-abuse/ It tells us:Alcohol contributes to 60 percent of falls.
#23: Aurelian Ginkgo (AurelianGinkgo) on Jun 22, 2020
Oh! That's a shame. 60% is higher than I would have guessed.
