I read it in adolescence several times. The first time I struggled through it because of the language; by the time I finished it I had picked up on most of the terms. Then I found the glossary. Then I immediately read it again, and the depth of story really threw me.
Although the movie was a masterpiece, it was really only about 10 % of the book.
