#1: Web Paint-By-Number Robot (webpbn) on Dec 29, 2019
New version published by maceraseven.#2: besmirched tea (Besmirched Tea) on Dec 29, 2019 [SPOILER]
I'd have guessed the word meant fear of beer or kangaroos, but I suppose the real answer is a legit thing to fear#3: Jota (jota) on Dec 29, 2019
I kind of have this ...#4: Susan Nagy (susannagy54) on Dec 29, 2019
Me too, Jota!#5: Brian Bellis (mootpoint) on Dec 30, 2019 [SPOILER]
Aren't phobias "irrational" fears? Firearms are deadly.#6: Kristen Vognild (kristen) on Dec 30, 2019 [SPOILER]
Aha, this one was coined in the 60s. Apparently, the meaning is being afraid of the object itself, like you see a gun lying on a table and you freak out, even though no one is there to use it.#7: Aurelian Ginkgo (AurelianGinkgo) on Feb 13, 2020

Wasn't there an Old West outlaw named Hop-a-long Something-or-other? Maybe they got their nickname from hoplo (firearm) because they were trigger happy. It's a guess. Clearly I know very little about the guy.#8: Kristen Vognild (kristen) on Feb 15, 2020 [SPOILER]
They did like to borrow European words back then and pronounce them their own way, so it's possible. That's how a saloon got its name. It was taken from the French "salon" meaning a room where sophisticated men discuss things, but, well... the Old West. Nothing sophisticated came out of it.
The fictional Hopalong Cassidy :)#9: Aurelian Ginkgo (AurelianGinkgo) on Feb 16, 2020

But, Hoplon is legitimately the Greek word for Weapon.
So that article was informative. I was way off, but it would have been a great answer in Balderdash!#10: Kristen Vognild (kristen) on Feb 16, 2020
true!#11: Al LaPointe (kancamagus) on Jun 30, 2020 [SPOILER]
I have a fear of running out of ammo...
