Puzzle Description:

He was a Major and a test pilot in the US Air Force during 60s. In 1969, he was selected to the NASA program for Psychedelic Space Travel program. The tests were harsh, and he had a mental breakdown in 1971. Once he told me that the space is full of oddities.

No, my uncle from Kansas. However, some weird English artist made a song about him. I cannot remember his name.

Cool puzzle. Yeah, smile logic there with the mustache(!) and certainly I thought of the song too.

I guess there were two artists, weren't there? David Bowie and Peter Schilling. I heard Schilling's and was later surprised to find it was sort of based on Bowie.
