Yes, a huge tragedy. So far they have ruled out terrorism. It's hard to imagine that such a land mark that has survived so much to be brought down by a freak accident. I wonder if they will be able to determine the cause since so much was destroyed.

If my guess is correct I'd hate to be the construction worker who accidentally burnt down Notre Dame. Thank you for the puzzle.

When I heard that Notre Dame was burning, I refused to believe it at first...then I saw the footage. I felt as I do when I hear of a death of someone close to me. I'm hoping against hope that enough...has survived. The sickest feeling swept over me as I saw those famous flying buttresses engulfed in smoke. I knew the spire was lost, but I hoped those would be saved...and they were...I hope the water and smoke damage hasn't claimed more than we all can bear. It just makes me cry every time I think about it...I hope the rose windows really have survived...I heard much lead melted, but do not know if it involved those particular windows.

A couple of French billionaires have already pledged hundreds of millions toward restoration.

A reminder of the fragility of precious treasures. Thankfully, no human life was lost, the most precious valuable of all. And thankfully so much money has been donated for restoration.
