And another "you learn something new every day" puzzle. Plus a beautiful violet to go with it.

A poem my boyfriend gave me with a bouquet when we were young:

Roses are red
Violets are purple
You are as sweet as
Maple surple

I didn't know Rosco P! Coltrane had a singing career.

Roger Miller also wrote "King of the Road," and was the minstrel rooster Alan-a-Dale in the animated Robin Hood. He did not, however, play Sheriff Roscoe. :)

James Best (Rosco's actor) said he reused the voice that he used with his children when he was playing a bad guy. I can't help but wonder if he got some of the voice's hiccups from this style of singing.

Nice.

Well, dang me, Kristen. Actually he didn't say he had written it, but he did let me go on assuming that he had. At least it came with a bunch of flowers. I guess I can take that florist's card out of my memory box and throw it away now...

Do you know the antecedents of this one, from another bouquet-worthy occasion:

Roses are red
Carnations are pink
You are the girl
Whom I most of think

I haven't heard that one before. The term "maple surple" was one that stuck with me. :)

I loved the detail in this picture.
