I remember one side-issue from a sci-fi story I read decades ago, where a character was recalling a conversation that involved a long rambling story about androids. He couldn't remember all the details but knew that the inevitable ending involved looking at the android's belly button and instead of seeing the stamp "Made in USA" it had "Fabrique en France". That was one of the most indirect ways of writing non-explicit sexually suggestive material you could find.
