I see you're a solver as well as a maker. That's good. Keep in mind what you like puzzles to be like when *you* solve them.

Please use the "Check" button when you're creating a puzzle, and only publish when it tells you there is a unique solution.
Here's a page that gives advice on making solvable puzzles:

Well, well, well. We seem to have another plagiarized copy of an image that well may be copyrighted. (See link)

Perhaps Laila just wanted to share an image, but should understand that publishing a copy without the owner's permission is illegal.

Once again I refer to Jan's first sentence on the Create Puzzle page which is good advice: Please do not enter any puzzles taken from any copyrighted source, such as books, magazines, or other web sites. Enter only your own original designs.

I'd hardly call it plagiarized. It's recreating an image in another "media", if you like, which I find ok in this context. There are all sorts of copyrighted iconic images all over this site -- Marilyn Monroe, Disney cartoons, movie characters pics, etc. -- and you don't snarkily complain about them.

And while Jan was exercising caution in asking not to enter copyrighted images (which is probably wise since companies like Disney have a poor trackrecord of issuing illegal takedowns), I'm fairly certain that any copyrighted images used here fall under the fair-use clause because they are for personal use and no income is being derived from their use.

We have some wonderful artists on this site, many of whom have made puzzles of well known images. But they are clearly their own creations and are not out and out copies of someone else's work. They use photos for reference and do not copy a pixel image made by someone else, claiming it as their own. So I think the issue here is not so much about plagiarism and copyrights, but all about honesty. If a person recreates a pixel image they saw elsewhere that they think would make a good puzzle, then they should properly give credit to their source. Judging from past reactions, many long time users of this site don't take too kindly to those who are less than honest about the puzzles they post. Perhaps you are not bothered by dishonesty, amyfaith, but that is your privilege.

And just out of curiosity, what do you consider different media in this case?. I was kind of thinking copying a pixel image to make a pixel image was pretty much the same media. Did you actually click on the link I provided which is clearly a pixel image, or are you relying on the original image that this came from which you happen to be familiar with?

I am also a long-time user of this site (although I comment infrequently), and had assumed that she used the original album cover as a photo reference, not an existing conversion to pixelation, so my apologies for thinking you were referring to that.

The more I thought about it I assumed you used the original cover for comparison. So your apology is appreciated and accepted. I see you have solved quite a few, but never published one. You should give it a try. You might surprise yourself.
