Puzzle Description:

..but not an interesting puzzle. Did you know that a 20x20 webpbn puzzle has 400 cells and a Webpbn cell has 400 pixels in it?

Right on both counts. LOVE your puzzles and your brain!

I suppose this is probably true of the standard 72 dpi screen resolution? Either way, thanks for sharing that interesting fact.

I use the SVG mode, so the screen pixel size of each pbn pixel is different depending on the size of the puzzle. (The puzzle is resized to fit the screen.) SVG mode provides sharp edges and great clarity no matter the size. Great for older eyes.

That *is* interesting!

Dear besmirched and others,
I would like to know about the H and V keys. Is it easy to explain or could you direct me to somewhere to read about it?

marjorie,
The H & V keys can be used to fill in quickly rows & columns (respectively). They will fill in an entire [H]orizontal row or [V]ertical column if that line has only one clue that is the whole length of that line.

It will also fill in between two pixels of the same color, or from one colored pixel to the edge of the puzzle.

To use it, place your cursor on a pixel within the space you want to fill and press the appropriate key.

There is a FAQ with this, more shortcut keys, et alia, here: http://webpbn.com/index.cgi?page=faq.html

PS The reason Mr Tea said everyone now knew this is because I had just posted a puzzle that added a rule to only use those keys during the solving. It was called "Don't Click On This Puzzle". Perhaps you took my title too seriously. ;-)

Thank you Joe! This is extremely helpful.
I had hoped there was a way to bypass some of the tedium.

Does anyone else ever try to solve puzzles (especially easy or "no white) by attempting to click the minimal number of times? For example, a 20x20 should require exactly 400 clicks, starting first by filling all the blanks, then black, red, etc.
I do these puzzles on my phone, so I cant use V and H....

(You have to set the cycle through colors to eliminate a color once all its boxes have been clicked).

I'll sometimes try to solve an easy puzzle without clicking on any white squares, and then using the Save button to dot all of them. I almost never get it on the first try, but sometimes! I also sometimes try to draw big blocks of color at once without lifting up my finger from the mouse button.

I didn't think WebPBN was usable on a phone. Cool!

Brash, I have a helpful tip for you. Tap the "Settings" button along the side panel where it says "Home", "Puzzle List", "Find Puzzles", etc. Then tap the "Options" tab. In the very first section you can check the box to make it so you no longer deal with colors that are complete within a puzzle. I love this feature. Note, however, that any color with blots will not be able to be considered "done" even if they are all accounted for. The problem shouldn't come up nearly as frequently, though. I hope this works for you.

@ Valerie - It may not be as easy, but it is certainly possible. I even authored a bunch of small puzzles on my phone in mid 2019 when I broke my ankle and my computer was 2 flights of stairs away.

Ouch!!

I solved a few on my iPad, back when I had one. It worked best with small B&W puzzles, but since there's no right-mouse-button on a tablet (or phone), each black square was a tap-tap. After tap-tap, tap-tap, tap-tap, I had "He Lives" stuck in my head almost constantly. The verses have the same cadence as the tap-tap from my fingers.
