Puzzle Description:

Dixie is a historical nickname for the Southern United States, especially those states that composed the Confederate States of America.

The name came from the explorers Mason and Dixon. The story is that they were fighting over drinking vessels when they came up with the compromise that Mason would drink from the jar and Dixon from the cup thus we have Mason Jars and Dixie Cups. Dixie was the area south of the line that they drew across the country. The North never became known as Masie though.

Fun info, Teresa.

Allegedly, the $10 note (in Nouvel Orleans) had the French word Dix (meaning Ten)on it, and they were called Dixies, but that's likely revisionist "history". :)
