Several members of my family are volunteer firemen and i always worry when i hear the siren going off. So far they've all been lucky.

My brother was a volunteer fireman and he injured his back when he fell through a roof. He recovered mostly, but was unable to climb around up on roofs anymore. Actually many of us engage in an activity that is quite hazardous, but we do it so often we don't think about it and that's get in our cars. In the United States we kill off almost a hundred people a day with cars.

Nice puzzle, by the way. I guessed a little, but mostly because it's so hard for me to tell blue 1's from black 1's on my screen.

My brother is now retired from being a fireman, after a full career. He still teaches a full course of rescue techniques at college for upcoming firefighters, and his son is a fireman, too. Fortunately, he is meticulous in his general planning and his safety technique, so we had little cause to worry over the years.

I'm sure it's not something they dwell on,but when they go into a big fire it must enter their mind. I have no idea why I made this puzzle. I just had a thought about it and figured it might make a cool puzzle. Thx gang. :)

I was wondering what you'd done to tick off Nikki, but this is a much more serious topic. Such brave men and women!

Kristen, I was thinking the same thing.

Aldege, I'm glad you were only expressing compassion for this brave profession. Really good puzzle.

Yes, as the ax started to form I was afraid you were using a symbolic picture drawn from the time hobos were pictured carrying their belongings in a bundle on the end of a pole balanced on their shoulders.

Thx Kristen,Teresa and Norma. I struggled a bit with the axe trying to get it to look right. I wanted to make this from the perspective of seeing him from behind walking to the burning building. To me it gives it more effect. :)

The ax came out great, Aldege and the angle is good.
