I struggled a bit with this nice puzzle. I think I needed a few friends helping me. Thanks Gaynor

ELR30 eliminates C1-2 and C29-30 in that row. LL.
ELC30: The 7 clue can't go down past R11 without causing a contradiction in C29. This makes R5-6 black. LL.
ELC1: The 6 clue can't go down past R11 without causing a contradiction in C2. This makes R6-7 black. LL.
R20: the 2-clue is either in C6-7 or C10-22. Either way R9C8-9 are black. Little bit of LL.

Stuck here for now, I'll check back in on this one later when I haven't been staring at it for so long.

toughie. guessed.

I used logic alone, but I don't think I could tell you how I did it. I know I never guessed, but the lookahead started so early on, I just can't recall specifically how I solved it. I will leave the explanation to the experts - the ones who keep track of their solving methods. I'm just proud of myself for finishing with logic alone.

I sometimes think my puzzles are all too easy - glad this one gave you more of a challenge!

I don't understand the difference between "look ahead" and "guessing". Anyway, I enjoyed the puzzle and was actually able to guess the correct proverb. Very nice illustration of it.

Velma, the FAQ has some instructions on Advanced Solving Methods. If the puzzle can be solved using one or more of those, plus line & color logic, it counts as "moderate lookahead." The fuzzier line is between "deep lookahead" and "guessing;" usually deep lookahead is something beyond qualifications for moderate but can still be done at least in someone's head (maybe not mine, maybe not yours, but someone's) before clicking on any pixels. If you can't explain how you worked it out, it's hard for anyone else to determine if you did it logically.

I think 'trial and error' would accurately describe my solving method towards the end. When I got to the end of where I could use line logic I saved the puzzle. I had one or two parts where there were only 2 possibilities. I worked out that in R9, I could only fill in L13 or 15 to form the '2'. After I saved the puzzle I tried the first possible option (R9, L13). This failed, so I exited the puzzle, reverting back to where I had saved and tried the second option (R9, L15), which worked.

Don't understand the design, but it was a fun solve.
