When I was small we had both an old fashioned wood stove and a small apartment size stove. The gas stove had a small oven so things like turkeys and large hams were cooked in the wood stove to perfection by my mother. Looking back I have no idea how she did it. Plus the gas stove had no thermostat in the oven (you lit the burners with matches). She baked bread, coffee cakes, cookies, etc. also to perfection. My brother called cinnamon rolls "tin bundles".

Way back when, we had a family cabin in the Colorado mountains that had a wood stove. There were lots of aunties in the kitchen, so I was never offered the opportunity to even watch, much less learn to cook with one.
