I did this puzzle in the night and couldn't think of anything. This morning cleanliness is next to Godliness pops to mind. But how about -#3: John Macdonald (perlwolf) on Jul 6, 2017
As useless as a comb to a bald man?
An Aldege and his comb are soon parted.#4: Teresa K (fasstar) on Jul 6, 2017
Claudia, you got it!#5: Bill Eisenmann (Bullet) on Jul 6, 2017 [SPOILER]
Marjorie, you got the gist of it.
John, I was wondering who would come up with an Aldege proverb. Well done! :-)

Belita, it's kind of like youth is wasted on the young. We get wisdom from experience and most of it comes too late to learn from it. It's what makes us old folks shake our heads and say, "Kids these days. Hrmph."#12: Aurelian Ginkgo (AurelianGinkgo) on Jul 7, 2017
Norma, your answer really made me laugh.
Bill, that story really stuck in my head and when I was young, it made me feel so sad. But now all I can think is, it won't take long for her hair to grow back. Unlike the poor bloke with the comb. Ha!
Ah, but what if one learns from the experience of others? I learned how to ride a bike as a kid by watching one of my sisters, only a year older than me. I saw everything that she was doing wrong and somehow figured out how to not do it all before getting on one myself. The day I finally got on one, I just rode off. :P#13: Susan (Susan) on Jul 7, 2017
I wasn't familiar with that proverb either, and thought this fellow was about to comb his beard, lol. Very well drawn, however, and a fun solve, plus now I'm proverb richer. And at my age, I for sure know what it means! Thanks, Teresa.#14: Kristen Vognild (kristen) on Jul 8, 2017
Great minds think alike, in here. I, too, thought first of Aldège, and secondly of the Gift of the Magi.#15: Susan Duncan (medic25733) on Jul 14, 2017
