I usually hate quilt puzzles, but this one went pretty fast and the final pattern was nice.

I don't know if I'm right, but there are 17^4 = 83,521 different solutions.

It takes some "artist's intuition." It's a type of educated guessing where the solver predicts where what color should go based on what would make the most sense artistically. It's the only kind of intuition that I have used that has never been wrong. (Other than that, I can't ever trust my "gut feeling".) But I solved your puzzle perfectly the first time using this intuition.

Basically, any one of the 2x2 diagonal blocks can be reversed.
