This reminds me of a story my father told me when I was in school. He belonged to a men's church group called "The Knights". The wives wanted to form a ladies auxiliary. He suggested the wives call themselves "The Ladies of the Nights." They were not amused.#5: Norma Dee (norm0908) on Apr 16, 2017
Thank you Nancy, and Kathy. I don't think I would be amused, either, Kathy. lol#6: Kristen Vognild (kristen) on Apr 16, 2017

But wouldn't the shape of the state have served as a better visual gag for the pun? I suppose with this pixelated art it would not come out well, huh? It might just be a randomly shaped blob... Yeah, good call with the van.
Thanks Aurelian. The hippies were popular during the mid 1960's, so maybe everybody is not all that familiar with them. But the wildly floral decorated VW vans were very popular with the hippies, and became something of a symbol for them.#10: robert svanberg (tango) on Apr 16, 2017
People round here still call VW Kombis "hippie vans". Very popular again amongst the surfers. It's definitely a fashion statement though. The air cooled engines have always been hopeless in the heat of an Australian summer. Lots of enforced rest breaks when travelling. Thanks for a bit of retro, Norma.#11: Norma Dee (norm0908) on Apr 17, 2017
Thank you, Robert. And thanks for the info about the hippie van.#12: valerie o..travis (bigblue) on Apr 17, 2017

As a young kid in the 60s, my family had one of these (actually 2, after the first one gave u the ghost on the way to the shore one year). Best vacation mobile ever! I was small enough to sleep on the shelf over the engine on an air mattress. We had the middle bench seat removed, and my parents and big brother could all fit on air mattresses on the floor.#17: Norma Dee (norm0908) on Aug 31, 2023
The memories!
And no cell phones. Just the simple life.
