I'm sooo glad I don't have to worry about school lunches anymore. Or making sure they catch the bus.

Very cool puz, KD. I remember those days.

So, I ask all of you solvers this: Assuming the child has no special needs and is capable of learning the responsibility of remembering to take their lunch, do you drive to school just to give them the forgotten lunch, or allow them to learn by the natural consequence of going hungry?

I'll tell you my answer after I read all of yours. :-)

Having a heart of mush, I would feel sorry for them and take them whatever they forgot. Then feel guilty because maybe I should have been stronger. :)
#11: Aldege Cholette (aldege) on Jan 11, 2017
I would let them go hungry and hope they learn. Of course you know darn well they won't go hungry cause all their friends will share. :)

KD loved your puzzle. I never had that problem my children always at the school lunches.

Teresa, I would have to consider why they left their lunch. Running late, a lot of things on their mind, embarrassed by having to bring their lunch to school. Depending on what the reason is then I would make the decision to take or not to take them their lunch. If it is a reoccurring habit, then I would not take it to them.

Aldege you are right the others would share, but a school has to provide a lunch, so they probably could get a peanut butter sandwich and milk.

It looks like he might have forgotten his backpack too.

I never had that problem, where I live school is from 8:30 to 12:30 or 13:30 to 17:30 so children lunch at home. Some schools do give lunch, maybe that is the only meal the child will have in the day. Those days were gone, now they are returning.

My kids ate school lunch, but if they forgot their lunch I would probably bring it to them and charge them a delivery fee.

Donna, I like your suggestion to figure out the possible reasons behind their leaving their lunch behind.

Belita, I like your idea of holding them accountable in a reasonable and fair way. I have done this with "forgotten" chores, or misbehavior - have them pay in time spent doing extra work, like washing windows or pulling weeds, before they can do their free-time activity.

My best solution was to initiate Inspection Time. Five minutes or so before time to leave, I cue them to check their ready list - teeth brushed? face clean? water bottle? lunch and backpack? And in my son's case, zipper up? hehe. If they pass Inspection, they get a sugar-free life saver to suck on while they go off with a hug from a happy Mom. It's fun and pretty much fool proof. It doesn't take long for this to become routine.

I like the puzzle too. Hope K.D. doesn't take this discussion critically, it's a nice group of people here that discuss all kinds of stuff.
