Puzzle Description:

The kangaroos have just arrived for the Australian run, and Tiny is making sure their accommodations are warm and comfortable. (Idea from Tango's puzzle.)

What a cute idea. You could make a series with camels, elephants, polar bears, and whales.

I created Tiny several years ago as an elf at the North Pole who makes an appearance every Christmas season. At first he meant well, but was an accident looking for a place to happen, but he is maturing and getting more responsible.

Good for Tiny! He is one of my favorite webpbn characters. You have developed his character so well over the years, he is almost real. :-)

Thank you, Teresa. I'll try to keep him busy.

Thank you Norma. It's normally your puzzles that inspire me so a role reversal is wonderful. Fine looking kangaroos too. Peripatetic animals! I was visiting Missouri some years ago and was very surprised to see some emus being farmed. I didn't know they'd crossed the Pacific. I was even more surprised when I saw some dogs which the owners were calling Australian Shepherds. Turns out it's a breed developed in the US and had nothing to do with Australia.

Thank you very much Robert. It seems that various animals get transported to other parts of the world, some with disastrous results, and some animals were actually saved from extinction. I now have a mental picture of a herd (?) of emus frantically swimming across the Pacific. :)

While I am now similarly convinced that herds of emus were forced to swim the Pacific, I think it was for purely commercial reasons. The meat is edible (but strongly flavoured, the feathers are used by milliners, but it's their oil that is desirable and used in the cosmetics industry. If you want a laugh, look up videos of emus running. With their feathers flapping like tutus they look like demented ballerinas.

Very funny birds, those emus. They brought ostriches to Arizona in the early 1900's, mostly for the plumes. They are still being raised, also for meat, and every year they have a festival in Chandler, Arizona with one of the main attractions being the ostrich races. These can be funny to watch, also.

I didn't realize that Australian shepherds weren't from Australia! I used to work for a woman whose partner bred them. They are VERY smart dogs!

There are several emu farms nearby in Louisiana, and they do seem to be bred primarily for their oil, though these farms don't appear to have their own websites.

Great. Maybe Igor and Mr Cat need to meet the Australian visitors
#18: Norma Dee (norm0908) on Nov 30, 2016
Thanks, Dan. I think Igor and Mr. Cat's visit to the North Pole is becoming a tradition.
