November 28 is the perfect day to make some French toast for breakfast because the National French Toast Day is celebrated on this date. French toast is surely one of the most popular breakfast dishes in the United States.#2: Al LaPointe (kancamagus) on Nov 27, 2016 [SPOILER]
French toast is also known as gypsy toast, eggy bread, or omelette bread. It is a dish of bread slices soaked in beaten eggs and then pan-fried. The earliest reference to this dish dates back to the 4th or 5th century.
In the 15th century, it was first referred to as “pain perdu†(French for “lost breadâ€). It was so named because it was typically made with stale bread. French toast is still called pain perdu in France, Belgium, Acadiana, New Orleans, and the Congo. In Quebec, they call it golden bread – pain doré.

So cute! My Louisiana mother-in-law makes Lost Bread. It wasn't until years later that I learned that the French call it pain perdu. (French "pain" is pronounced like "pan")#8: Susan Nagy (susannagy54) on Nov 27, 2016
