Very cool Jen. Let's hope she feels well enough to attend. Buying a vet a cup of coffee is a wonderful gesture. When you give it to him or her, hold their hand and look them in the eyes as you say thank you so they can see and feel your sincerity. I did that today and the look of joy on their faces was wonderful. Destyny and Chastydy are both really into super heroes right now and I told them that these men and women are true super heroes. Not fake ones like they see on T.V.. My wifes 2 boys aged 14 and 12 are in the Air Cadets and will be marching and playing drums in the procession to the town centre which happens to be the post office. They look great in their uniforms. Destyny will also be marching with her classmates as part of the ceremony. Our family doctor, dentist and many other professional and business owners who know us and our kids will be there and they will all be proud of our kids. It's one of the great things about living in a small town. :)

I am in tears now. My dad thought our country (US) was important enough to quit high school and fight in the Korean war. When Panama was invaded my then husband (now ex) was there and I had to keep it together while I taught school. Then my son was in Iraq. These people no matter what country they fight for are the REAL HEROS and it is shameful how some are treated. Thank you for the lovely puzzle and story. Give your girls a hug from their Auntie Donna and tell them I am also proud of them.

Here's a moving recitation of In Flanders Fields, read by Leonard Cohen, who died yesterday.

Oh my gosh! I am so moved right now.

Aldege, this is a beautiful puzzle (fun to solve) and your story is so touching.

Belita, thank you for the link. The one that follows that one is a video of Leonard doing the recitation last year. What a beautiful man.

Today I am remembering my Dad, who fought in WWII. He passed away just a few years ago, and I so miss him.

Nice puzzle, Aldege. Sometimes the smaller puzzles are the most powerful.

My dad was in WWI, I had 3 brothers in WWII, 2 in the Air Force, 1 in the Navy. My husband was on the Philippines when they fell to the Japanese and spent the duration of the war in a Japanese prison camp, then another 3 years in hospitals dealing with the TB he contracted while in Japan. And my son served in the Navy. I'm so proud of all of them.

Thx aunties and uncles. When I was at Destyny's school yesterday they had pictures that the kids drew for Remembrance Day. There was one of Flanders Fields that brought me to tears it was so well done. Also they had the grade 3 students wearing plackards that had the name and age of a soldier that died for us. When I saw one at 19 then another at 18 yrs of age when they died,I cried again. :)

Yes uncle Kurt it is the poppy. This year I saw several people that used a Canadian flag pin in the centre of the poppy to hols it on their jacket. I put a poppy on Destyny in this puzzle in case no one noticed. :)

Oh auntie Belita,I hadn't heard about Leonard's passing. This saddens me so. He was a Canadian icon and one of my heroes. What a brilliant man and artist/poet. And that voice. I have all his songs on my hard drive in the van. I love his music. He will be missed. :)

Auntie Teresa you must be so proud of him. The things that these brave men and women experienced are beyond what we can imagine. :)

Wow auntie Norma. Your heart must swell with pride. I hope you didn't lose any of them due to war. I can't imagine what your husband must have gone thru. :)

Thx auntie Jota. We all are I'm sure. :)
