Great Puzzle. fun solve. How else would we have an egg if a chicken didn't lay it.

This puzzle is kind of small, so it might not be obvious that the chicken is looking in a dictionary. :)

Ahh, that's a dictionary! Cute :)

So, it all depende on how you want to define the terms. As "chicken" was evolving, at some point proto-Chicken laid an egg, from which would hatch a bird we consider to be a chicken. So a not-quite-Chicken laid an egg, and what hatched was a Chicken. Did proto-Chicken lay a Chicken egg, or did Chicken hatch from the proto-Chicken egg?

Clear as mud, right?

To take the whole evolution question out of it, the question should have always been... "What came first, the chicken or the chicken egg?"
