Puzzle Description:

Touchdown! Who? What?

#1: Donna McFarland (jade8114) on Oct 30, 2016

Touchdown? Who? What? I thought I was solving a puzzle about a diamond but now I can see the holder for the football. I am not into any type of sports so as far as a guess goes, I'm out of luck! I guess this has something to do with the "Big" game I see advertised at grocery stores and food chains.

Liked the puzzle, had me fooled until I read your description. Way to go!

Hot air balloon touching down. That's what I see.
Fun.

It's a parachute, a very special parachute.
#4: Belita (belita) on Oct 30, 2016 [SPOILER]
I'm thinking something to do with space exploration.

The images are from the Context Camera on NASA's Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter. ... NASA’s Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter has identified new markings on the surface of the Red Planet that are believed to be related to Europe's Schiaparelli test lander, which arrived at Mars on Oct. 19.

Belita, it does have to do with space exploration.

Norma, it does have to do with NASA, but not the Mars mission.

is it about the expedition 49 crew members comimg home?

It is about an expedition of three crew members coming home after 115 days in space. This is the Soyuz MS-01 spacecraft as it lands with NASA astronaut Kate Rubins, Russian cosmonaut Anatoly Ivanishin and astronaut Takuya Onishi of the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency. Happened yesterday. The three had been working together at the International Space Station.

Most people didn't know about this, not much news coverage. In the middle of politics and war dominating the news, I'm trying to draw attention to other interesting, newsworthy events.

Great story.

Thank you, Fasstar, THANK YOU for "drawing" attention to other news besides the God-awful political climate and other disasters. Great puzzles, too!

I'm glad you appreciate my effort, Bill.

Found to be solvable with moderate lookahead by infrapinklizzard.

That IS a great story. Our media have their priorities all out of whack.

I thought it was pretty cool. One person from the United States, one from Japan, one from Russia. They all spoke different languages, but worked together as friends. They got to meet together once after landing before going back to their respective countries.
