I was also thinking along the lines of "blue in the face" but didn't really recall that idiom. I have heard of "red in the face" (Should I feel mad or sad?)#7: Belita (belita) on Nov 3, 2016 [SPOILER]
I've heard the expression "blue in the face" as in: "You can call a cat until you're blue in the face, but he won't come."
